On
December 8, 2009, voters in the Norman school district overwhelmingly
approved more than $109 million in a bond election to pay for five
years of capital improvements throughout the district. Improvements include:
- Implementation of Intelligent Classroom technology in each classroom;
- Renovations at each of the district’s 21 school sites;
- Additions at six elementary schools;
- Major renovations at each of the district’s four middle schools; and
- Construction of a new elementary school.
The
improvements were identified and recommended in a 2006 facilities
study. The bonds are being issued over a multi-year period so as to
match pre bond-election millage rates. The multi-year approach also
provides Norman Public Schools the opportunity to make dramatic
facility improvements and additions where needed, and implement quality
instructional technology throughout the district.
Most
of the 2009 bond projects either have already been completed or will be
completed by summer 2012. Per the requirements of the election, all
projects must be finished by
July 31, 2013.
